What is your Meat or Protein source?

Chicken meat is our base meat source.  Lamb and a small amount of fish are also added to give a more complete array of protein. In Flint River Ranch, you will see our meats listed as Chicken Meal, Lamb Meal and Fish Meal.  There are NO rendered By-Products, such as heads, feet, neck, bones, intestines or feathers, in Flint River Ranch formulas.

What is "Meal"?

Meal means "reduces in size" - our meal is made from fresh meat (never by-products) that is cooked; most of the water is removed and the meat reduced in size and ground.  Therefore, if a "meal" ingredient is listed in the ingredients, even after mixing and cooking, it should retain its ingredient ranking since most or all of the moisture has already been removed.

Why don't you use " Regular Chicken or Lamb" like some other manufacturers?

Remember, regular Chicken or Lamb is not like the meats you buy in the grocery store. The Chicken or Lamb labeled for pet food is not human grade and is most likely diseased, uthenized or already dead, and can include intestines, heads, feet, bones, feathers and tumorus tissues.

Secondly, the ingredients listing ranks each ingredient by its volume weight before it is mixed together and cooked with other ingredients.  Therefore, even if Chicken or Lamb is the 1st ingredient listed, when the cooking process begins most of the water,(almost 80%) blood and other bodily fluids are cooked out...the Result is a much lesser amount of chicken tissue which remains - that Chicken or Lamb will not be the predominant ingredient after cooking down.

Why isn't Flint River Ranch sold in pet stores?
Mass marketing requires aggressive national advertising, which is very expensive. The FLINT RIVER RANCH Company capitalizes on the marketing skills of its independent distributors.  By letting the distributors market the product their own way, the company saves money on national advertising.  This savings can be passed on to the consumers in the form of a much higher quality food at a very affordable price.

Is Flint River Ranch more expensive?
Absolutely Not! You will actually realize a savings on Flint River Ranch, with fewer vet bills. You will feed your pet 20 to 25% less of Flint River Ranch than other brands because it is so concentrated.  You won't be wasting money on non-digestible fillers like peanut hulls and sawdust.  Of course, fresh, human-grade chicken and range fed lamb costs more than road kill and diseased slaughterhouse animals (which find their way into most commercial pet foods).  Also, you will not be paying for water (which makes up about 75% of most canned pet foods.)  You will never have to waste time and gas running to the store to buy your dog or cat food.  Flint River Ranch ships your order for FREE directly to your door via United Parcel Service.

What is the shelf life?
Five to six months is the recommended shelf life for Flint River Ranch.  Most commercial dog foods contain harsh chemical preservatives so they can sit on a store shelf or in a warehouse for months on end.  FLINT RIVER RANCH contains no chemical preservatives.  It is made in small batches and shipped fresh to your door. FRR products can be placed in your freezer to extend the shelf-life for a few months - be careful to store properly so as not to allow freezer burn - 3 months maximum.

How will I know how much to feed my pet?
Each bag of dog or cat food lists the recommended amount to feed your pet.  Food requirements vary depending on climate, breed of pet and exercise activity.  Flint River Ranch is best introduced by mixing with your pets' current food for one to three weeks and allowing for slow assimilation as its normal diet. Over-feeding can not only cause weight-gain but may cause your pet to experience loose stools. Except for very young or very small dogs, the minimum amount divided by two and fed twice a day is highly recommended. Keep your dog at a weight recommended for it's breed - your dog deserves a waist.

How should I store this food?
Flint River Ranch recommends storing the food in the original bag in a sealed container.  By doing this you will also ensure that no old food remains in the bottom when you add new, fresh food to the container. Old food, crumbs and debris can form mold and toxins which can contaminate the entire batch and possibly make your dog sick. Clean the container each time new food is added. Remember, Flint River Ranch is all-natural and it is best to keep the food in a cool, dry place.  Do not place food directly on damp basement or garage floor.

How is the food packaged for shipping?
The largest bags are 20 pounds.  When you buy 40 pounds, you will get two 20-pound bags for easier storage.  Flint River Ranch packs each shipment securely in a heavy duty corrugated shipping box.

My pet is a finicky eater.  What if she doesn't like it?
